We are pleased to announce Professor Eoin Devereux as Guest Speaker at our UL Alumni London Gathering on 8 May. Prof Devereux is a Sociologist and a Creative Writer based in the Department of Sociology at UL. He is widely regarded as expert in the fields of popular music and media analysis. He has published extensively on the media and on popular music icons including David Bowie, Joy Division, Morrissey and The Smiths.

On this occasion, Prof Devereux will present his talk Sound(s) + Vision(s): The Life and Work of David Bowie. The venue for this event is Heddon Street Kitchen, 3-9 Heddon St, Mayfair, London, W1B 4BE.

This venue has a strong Bowie connection as the cover for his album ‘The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars’ was shot in this location – our venue can be seen in the background and there is a commemorative plaque at the spot David Bowie is standing in the foreground.

This event is kindly sponsored by Bank of Ireland and will begin with a welcome reception at 6.30pm followed by Prof Devereux’s talk and networking opportunity.

All UL Alumni, former students and their guests are welcome, however, places are limited and we anticipate reaching capacity quickly.  There is a €10 charge for this event; all proceeds will be donated to the UL Foundation University of Sanctuary Scholarship Fund.
