On 1 September, Prof Kerstin Mey took office as Interim President of the University of Limerick, the first female president of an Irish University. To mark the start of her term, a video was released containing a message to the wider community which can be viewed here. We are also delighted to bring a special from Prof Mey addressing our alumni community:

"At UL, our people have always been our greatest asset and strength. From our past, new and returning students, to the academic and support staff – we have a proud tradition of an enriched community spirit.

Both on and off campus, the community is represented through our more than 100,000 alumni of which we are immensely proud. The achievements of our graduates all over the world reflect enormously well on us. They are the embodiment of the UL story we want to tell.

Over the last six months, UL, our wider community and indeed the entire world has gone through an enormous change as a result of the pandemic that unfolded before us. Inspired and resilient, this bold and dynamic university adapted to continue to influence and impact in our region and beyond – just as our alumni do every day. Despite the fact that we are living in a global pandemic, this is an incredibly exciting time for UL - for us to be at the heart of a university that has a massive impact on so many lives on the people of the Mid-West and further afield.

We still have significant plans to grow the institution and we have exciting plans to add greatly to our physical presence in the heart of this great city that we live in. While operating prudently during this pandemic and into the future, we will not temper our ambition for this young, bold, dynamic and innovative place of learning.

For our future alumni, we must continue to reach high and have great ambition, to reach out into our community and have greater engagement, to take a leadership role in harnessing the full potential of this region that we live, work and study in.

As alumni, we want you all to be proud of us, as we are of you and your successes".
